When the vehicle battery is charged, two gases, oxygen, and hydrogen are released through electrolysis. Both of these gases are non-toxic gases.


When using traditional wet lead-calcium batteries, two gases, hydrogen, and oxygen, are released into the air.


When using the Agm start-stop battery, these two gases are reconverted into the water: the oxygen generated at the positive electrode during charging passes through the permeable glass fiber mesh to the negative electrode. Oxygen forms water with the hydrogen ions in the electrolyte at the negative electrode (oxygen cycle). This method will cause the loss of oxygen electrolysis. The safety valve will release the gas (through the hose through the vent hole) only when there is too much gas generated, the pressure is too high (20 to 200 mbar). In this process, the safety valve can prevent the oxygen in the air from entering. Because the pressure in the battery is controlled by a valve, the AGM battery is also called the VRLA battery (valve-regulated lead-acid battery).


The battery of a start-stop system vehicle cannot be replaced with an ordinary battery. Because the start-stop battery performance is higher in design than ordinary batteries, the service life will be reduced if ordinary batteries are used. It is inferred from the experimental data that the endurance life is generally only one-third of the start and stop. The battery of ordinary high-end vehicles can be replaced by Agm start-stop battery.

The acid is absorbed in the glass fiber mesh. The acid can flow freely in the battery case as before, but 100% is absorbed in the glass fiber mesh. This can improve leakage safety and reduce environmental hazards.


AGM written on the label is Agm start-stop battery. The labeling of Agm start-stop battery on Agm start-stop battery is different due to different original car manufacturers and battery manufacturers. Some original car batteries are marked with the word AGM, and some are marked with the word VRLA.
